If you’ve ever had it, you know how debilitating low back pain can be.  You dread a cough or sneeze, and simple, everyday activities like walking, getting up, or sitting down are nothing short of miserable.  Sometimes we think waiting it out is the best best, but it turns out getting treatment in a more timely manner is the fastest way to relief.

The Research Behind Early Intervention for Low Back Pain

A recent study focused on patients with back pain bad enough to send them to the doctor.  According to US News and World Report, “Researchers found that when those patients had “early” PT — within a couple of weeks of seeing a doctor — they were less likely to need other, often pricey, types of medical care. Over the next month to a year, they were less likely to see a specialist or a chiropractor, land in the emergency room, need imaging tests like MRI, or receive injection pain medication into the spine. Experts said the findings are in line with what they see in everyday practice.”

Furthermore, a financial impact was present as well. “Early PT was associated with less LBP [lower back pain] related spending during the first 30 days after initial presentation.”
